Heiðin (The Heath)

(2021-2024)

Heiðin – an ongoing work – explores the concept of time along Fjarðarheiði (Road 93), the highest altitude road in Iceland and the only overland route in and out of Seyðisfjörður. The heath represents a transitional space; a pathway from one location to another. Extremes in seasonal change manifest there, holding extended periods of fog, rain and snow, shutting residents off from the rest of society for days at a time. Heiðin sites the community; always there, pressing into the fragility of the town that paradoxically stands on the brink of radical change, as this mountain pass may soon be replaced with a 13-km tunnel. – Celia Harrison

Heiðin/ The Heath was presented at Skaftfell Art Center in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland from April 13- June 8, 2024. The project is currently being adapted into a feature-length documentry film.
